| Appartamento Carolina is on the fifth floor of a stately palazzo, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. It is located on a beautiful small square, with a central fountain in a historical neighborhood. From here, one can walk to all of Rome's most famous sites. The nearby Campo de' Fiori, a square with a bustling morning market, is a great place to purchase fresh food to cook for yourselves. For the guests that prefer to dine out, three wonderful restaurants are within a block or two and it is possible to sample true Roman cuisine. But this is the heart of the ancient Jewish quarter, so every one of the narrow, cobblestone streets is lined with small family-run shops in addition to four ancient temples. It is a car-free zone, so it is quiet for the area and the views from the balconies are just lovely with the red-roof tiles in the foreground and monuments in the background. The Pantheon and the Piazza Navona are each about a 5 minute walk away and the Capitoline Museums and splendid views from the Capitoline Hill, and the Roman and Imperial Forums are roughly 7 minutes away. Walking south from the apartment, one quickly reaches the Tiber River just at the point where a tiny island divides it: this is the Isola Tiberina. Cross over the island and into the enchanting area known as Trastevere with its narrow alleys, artisan shops, and restaurants. To reach the Vatican, the main train station or other destinations not so readily found on foot, a main hub of public transportation is found in a nearby square, the Largo di Torre Argentina. One enters Appartamento Carolina on the fifth floor via elevator, into a hall leading to a large bi-level room. On the upper level is a living room and on the lower level are the kitchen and dining room that opens onto a large terrace. The terrace is furnished for dining al fresco or for sunning and enjoying the views. A winding staircase from the terrace leads up to a second furnished terrace with even better views! Caution: the winding stair can be dangerous for unattended, small children. The open-plan kitchen was completely renovated in 2003 and is lovely to cook in with a stove with oven, refrigerator with freezer, sink, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, American coffee machine, washing machine and cupboards. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has queen bed and the main bathroom, accessed from the hall, has a tub. The second bedroom is a twin-bedded room with a bathroom with shower across the hall. Across the front of the apartment is a long narrow balcony that connects to the main large terrace off of the living room. Both bedrooms open onto this long balcony. |
