| Hidden by a forest of oaks and olive trees, Castel Vitiano is located on one of the highest peaks of the hills surrounding the medieval hilltop town of Orvieto. The property began as a stone tower, dating approximately from the year 1000, a classic military outpost for sighting and defense of the underlying valley, an obligatory passageway to Rome, 90 miles to the south. It was only after the period in which Castel Vitiano acted as a residence of nobles and clergy that the additional buildings (main house, apartment & guest rooms) were added. The final restoration occurred between the late 80's and early 90's by the current owner. The stone walls, terracotta floors and wooden ceilings are all made with original or recovered materials, and they contribute to the classic elegance of this hidden gem. This property is the Main House, made up of a ground floor with a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and spacious living room with a unique fireplace dating back to 400 AD. The first floor contains one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, each with wooden ceilings and floors, and two bathrooms, one with shower and one with a bathtub. |
